The Art of Handcrafted Casting: The Excellence of Virtus 1945
A Legacy of 80 Years in Bronze Luxury Decor
Virtus 1945, S.L. proudly celebrates 80 years of heritage and tradition in the art of handcrafted bronze luxury pieces. Based in Madrid - Spain, this family-owned company has mastered the creation of bronze mantel clocks, candelabras, and decorative sculptures. The company’s success lies in its commitment to quality and the preservation of artisanal techniques that give each piece a unique character.
One of the most emblematic techniques employed by Virtus 1945 is sand casting, an ancient craftsmanship method that the company has perfected to meet the highest contemporary standards.
The Sand Casting Process
Sand casting begins with the creation of a pattern, usually made of wood or metal. This pattern is used to shape a mold in a special mixture of sand, binders, and clay. At Virtus 1945, skilled artisans meticulously mold the sand around the pattern, ensuring that every intricate detail is captured for the final piece.
Once the sand mold is prepared, the pattern is carefully removed, leaving a hollow cavity that precisely reproduces the desired shape. At this stage, feeding and venting channels are introduced to guide the flow of molten metal and allow gases to escape during the casting process.
The next step is the melting of bronze, a copper, tin and zinc alloy, in specialized furnaces. Heated to over 1,000 degrees Celsius, the metal transforms into a liquid state with a brilliant, glowing consistency. The artisans of Virtus 1945 skillfully pour the molten bronze into the sand molds, working swiftly and precisely to ensure an even distribution before the metal begins to solidify.
Once cooled, the mold is broken apart to reveal the cast piece. This method guarantees that every creation is unique, as each sand mold is individually made and used only once.
Finishing and Detailing
After casting, each piece undergoes an extensive finishing process. Artisans carefully remove any irregularities using hand tools and polishing techniques. They then apply surface treatments such as patinas or gilding, enhancing the natural beauty of the bronze luxury decor while giving each item a distinctive, refined touch.
Finally, every piece undergoes rigorous quality control to ensure it meets Virtus 1945’s high standards. This artisanal approach, combined with timeless design, has enabled the company to export its exquisite creations to more than 50 countries, captivating international markets.
A Legacy of Excellence
Over the past 80 years, Virtus 1945 has proven that the combination of tradition and craftsmanship is the key to success. The company’s dedication to the art of sand casting not only preserves an ancestral technique but also ensures that each creation is a unique and enduring work of art.
We take pride in the fact that our production is 100% Spanish, reinforcing our identity and commitment to the highest standards of quality.
Louis XV and Louis XVI Styles: Timeless Elegance
Most of Virtus 1945’s collections are inspired by the Louis XV and Louis XVI styles, two artistic movements that defined the opulence of 18th-century France. These influences not only bring an air of sophistication to our pieces but also resonate with our clients’ appreciation for bronze mantel clocks classic style.
The Louis XV style, also known as Rococo, is characterized by its fluid curves, floral motifs, and elaborate ornamentation. This design style aims to convey a sense of luxury and lightness, with pieces that showcase movement and dynamism. Products inspired by this style often feature gilded finishes and intricate detailing, perfect for those seeking classic elegance.
Conversely, the Louis XVI style represents a transition towards more geometric and structured forms, influenced by the rediscovery of Greco-Roman art. Straight lines, classical motifs, and a balanced aesthetic define this style, blending bronze mantel clocks and candelabras into refined yet minimalist spaces where every detail matters.
Challenges and Looking to the Future
Sustaining an 80-year legacy has not been without its challenges. Virtus 1945 has faced significant global disruptions, including the Covid-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. These events have impacted supply chains and international markets, but thanks to the loyalty and trust of our clients, we have overcome every obstacle.
Despite being a traditional company, we are embracing modern advancements. By incorporating new technologies and manufacturing systems, we enhance the quality of our handcrafted bronze luxury pieces while preserving the artisanal touch that defines us. Additionally, we continue to participate in major international trade fairs, showcasing our collections and attracting new clients who appreciate the vintage charm of our creations.
This 80th anniversary stands as a testament to our dedication to excellence and our vision to blend tradition with innovation for the future.
